Coventry City Council uses e learning to give Business Continuity advice to city businesses, Print E-mail

Coventry City Council is delivering Business Continuity Management (BCM) training, free, to around 8000 companies based in Coventry through the Pharabius on-line learning portal.

The 1-½ hour e-learning course covers the core principles of business continuity management & Planning was customised specifically to assist the local authority to deliver assitance to businesses based in the city.

Linked to the Council’s own web site the course is being delivered free of charge to every business registered in Coventry.  It is accessible to the target audience at any time from anywhere with an Internet connection.

Peter Streets the Emergency Planning Officer for Coventry City Council said “This is a good example local authority working closely with a private sector partnership, enabled us to deliver a first class service without it costing us the earth.

Having surveyed our local businesses we found that they had a strong preference for accessing information about BCM online. When we looked at the existing material available online we found the immense volume of information currently available from hundreds of different website confusing, and time consuming to assimilate

We knew the information we had to offer had to be structured, clear, and informative, formatted in a way that it would capture the interest of the users.

At the time Unovision were developing their e-learning BCM course that was to be delivered from their e-learning portal Pharabius. The Core principles of Business Continuity Management is a well structured audio visual

We have known Unovision through their work with the Emergency Planning Society. They are an IT Project Management Agency with a focus on Business continuity, Risk management and e-learning solutions.

The fact that this course is available free and allows for businesses to complete it in their own time at their own pace maximises our potential to reach as many businesses as possible.

The aim is to ensure that local companies are resilient and following a survey amongst local companies we felt that an on line course was the best way to reach people.”
